About

Jessica Pleuss (she/her/hers)

Still learning, always.

We gain expertise through training and through living. When it comes to parenting, I have done the training (that PhD took a long time) and am doing the living. Join me as I attempt to lighten the load for parents and celebrate the wonder of childhood.

What do you do?

I teach psychology at Morningside University. I study children’s play and development. I write picture books that I wish had existed for my own children. I draw and doodle whenever I find an excuse to do so. Together with my husband, I parent four bio-kids and sometimes a foster kid or two. I knit, I camp, I paddle. Oh, and I do laundry. So much laundry.

My Work

My teaching and research happens through my role at Morningside. When it comes to my writing and art, you have to travel back in time a bit…to the pre-parenting days. My poetry, photography, and artwork appeared in several editions of The Lighter, the literary magazine of Valparaiso University, when I was a student there. More recently, my photography has appeared in The Kiosk, the literary and art magazine of Morningside University. Writing children’s books is my most recent endeavor, currently ‘in the works’ is a series of picture books related to foster care.
